Singapore in April 2027: Weather, Events and Tips from HK

7 min read

You're in Hong Kong, thinking about a week in Singapore next April. April 2027 is a good month to go: days run hot, around 32°C, rain usually comes as short afternoon thunderstorms rather than grey all-day drizzle, and Singapore has no public holidays that month to crowd the attractions.

The catch is the heat, not the rain. Plan your days around it and April works very well.

Know the April numbers

Singapore in April averages a daytime high of about 32°C and a night low of about 25 to 26°C, according to the Meteorological Service Singapore's 1991 to 2020 climate averages. Humidity stays high around the clock, so 32°C feels hotter than the same reading in Hong Kong.

April falls in Singapore's inter-monsoon season. The inter-monsoon is the transition between the northeast and southwest monsoons, roughly late March to May, when winds are light and thunderstorms build over land in the afternoon and early evening, according to the Meteorological Service Singapore. In practice you get a bright, sticky morning, a heavy downpour sometime after lunch, and a clear evening.

The sea around Singapore sits at roughly 29 to 30°C in April, which is bath-warm rather than refreshing. Daylight barely changes all year this close to the equator: expect about 12 hours, with sunrise a little after 7am and sunset around 7.10pm.

Fares for April are not something we can give you yet. Singaporehongkong.com doesn't track fares on the Hong Kong to Singapore route at the moment, so there's no April figure from the site, and the fare calendar on our flights page will show it once tracking starts. Direct flights take around four hours, with Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Scoot all flying the route, and you can compare fares from Hong Kong to Singapore to see what April looks like today.

A few fixed numbers do apply. The SG Arrival Card is free and must be submitted online within three days before you arrive, according to Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), 2026. Singapore's Goods and Services Tax is 9%, according to the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS), 2024, and visitors can claim it back through the Tourist Refund Scheme on qualifying purchases at participating shops; IRAS lists the current minimum spend.

Hotel rates in April are shoulder-season rather than peak. The big price spikes in Singapore come with the Formula 1 weekend, year-end holidays and Chinese New Year, though a large convention at Marina Bay Sands or Singapore Expo can push rates up for a few nights in any month. Our hotel prices for a first stay give you a sense of the spread by area.

Plan the trip in five steps

A Singapore April trip from Hong Kong comes together in five steps, and the order matters because the first one sets your price.

  1. Pick your dates around Hong Kong's holidays. Easter falls early in 2027 (Good Friday is 26 March, Easter Monday 29 March) and Ching Ming Festival is Monday 5 April, which makes a three-day weekend. Hong Kong school Easter breaks usually span that stretch; check your school's dates against the Education Bureau's school calendar. Flying out mid-April on a weekday is the sweet spot.
  2. Book flights early if you need that long weekend. Seats on Ching Ming departures go first. If you're flying the other way to see family, check fares from Singapore back to Hong Kong at the same time so both legs fit.
  3. Choose a base you can walk around in the evening. In April you'll do most of your wandering after 5pm, so a neighbourhood with hawker food and shophouses nearby beats a Marina Bay view. Katong and Joo Chiat in the east have Peranakan shophouses, laksa and cooler sea air; Tiong Bahru is the pick for cafes and a quick MRT ride to Chinatown.
  4. Sort entry and data before you fly. Submit the SG Arrival Card through ICA's website or the MyICA Mobile app inside the three-day window.
  5. Build each day around the heat. Outdoors from 7am to 11am, indoors or air-conditioned from 1pm to 4pm, back outside after 5pm. This one rule decides whether your trip feels pleasant or punishing.

For step three, hotels in Katong are usually a little cheaper than the Marina Bay and Orchard Road strip, and the East Coast Park cycling track is a short walk away.

For step four, your Hong Kong SIM will roam at Hong Kong prices, which adds up over a week. A travel eSIM for data on arrival is cheaper and works as soon as you land at Changi.

What April does best, and one thing to skip

These are the things April genuinely rewards, ranked by how much the month helps them.

Early morning on the Southern Ridges. The 10 km chain of trails links Mount Faber, Henderson Waves and Kent Ridge Park. Start at 7am and you'll be done before the heat sets in, with harbour views the whole way.

Gardens by the Bay's cooled conservatories at midday. The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are air-conditioned glasshouses, which makes them the smartest thing to do at 2pm in April. Come back after dark for the free Garden Rhapsody light show at the Supertree Grove.

Night Safari after the storm. Mandai's Night Safari opens in the evening when the afternoon rain has cleared and the air has cooled a few degrees. Weekday visits in April are noticeably calmer than school holiday weeks, and you can book Singapore tours and tickets ahead to skip the queue.

Little India in mid-April. Tamil New Year (Puthandu) and Vaisakhi, the Sikh new year, both fall around 13 to 14 April each year. Neither is a public holiday, but Serangoon Road gets busier with temple visits and sweet shops; exact dates shift slightly, so check the Hindu Endowments Board or temple notices closer to the time.

Hawker dinners outdoors. Lau Pa Sat's Satay Street, where Boon Tat Street closes to traffic in the evening, is at its best once the day's storm has passed.

Skip: a Sentosa beach afternoon. Siloso and Palawan beaches between 1pm and 4pm in April mean full sun, then a lightning alert that clears the sand. Go in the morning or not at all.

Avoid these April mistakes

The most common April mistakes are about paperwork, transport and weather, and every one is easy to dodge.

Paying for the SG Arrival Card. The official card is free through ICA. Several lookalike websites charge a fee to submit the same form; if a site asks for payment, you're on the wrong one.

Packing a vape. Vaping is illegal in Singapore, according to the Health Sciences Authority, and that covers possession and use, not just sale. Leave e-cigarettes in Hong Kong, including in hand luggage.

Expecting Octopus to work. It won't. Singapore's MRT and buses accept contactless Visa and Mastercard cards and mobile wallets through the SimplyGo system, so tap the card you already carry.

Treating lightning alerts as optional. When lightning risk is high, outdoor pools, water parks and some open-air attractions pause until it passes. Leave slack in any afternoon plan that involves water or open ground.

Assuming Easter falls in April. In 2027 it doesn't. Good Friday, Singapore's only Easter public holiday, is 26 March, and Hari Raya Puasa is expected in March too, so April has no Ramadan bazaars and no Singapore public holidays; check the Ministry of Manpower's 2027 list to confirm.

Packing for Hong Kong's April. Hong Kong in April can still have cool, misty days. Singapore won't. Bring light cotton or linen, sandals, a compact umbrella, sunscreen, and one long-sleeved layer for the fierce air-conditioning in malls, cinemas and MRT trains.

Singapore figures follow the Meteorological Service Singapore's 1991 to 2020 averages; Hong Kong figures follow the Hong Kong Observatory's 1991 to 2020 normals. Holiday dates should be checked against each government's gazetted 2027 list.

Decide whether April is your month

Go in April if you can travel mid-month on weekdays and you're happy to live on an early-morning, late-evening schedule. You'll get dependable weather between storms, no Singapore holiday crowds and shoulder-season hotel rates. Skip the Ching Ming long weekend unless you have no choice, because that's when Hong Kong departures fill up. If heat is your real dealbreaker, December is wetter but slightly cooler, and our guide to Singapore in December covers that tradeoff.
