Singapore in March: Weather, Events and Prices (2027 Guide)

7 min read

March is one of the better months to visit Singapore from Hong Kong, especially the first three weeks. Expect daytime highs around 31 to 32°C and nights around 24 to 25°C, with less rain than the November to January monsoon peak and hotel rates in shoulder season rather than peak.

The catch is the end of the month. Good Friday falls on 26 March 2027, and Hong Kong's Easter break pushes up flight demand around it. If your dates are flexible, go early.

Know the March numbers before you book

Singapore in March is hot, humid and mostly settled, with the wetter inter-monsoon period creeping in during the last week or so. The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), the government weather agency, describes the Northeast Monsoon as running from December to early March. An inter-monsoon period follows from late March into May, when afternoon thunderstorms become more frequent.

The numbers to plan around:

  • Daytime highs: around 31 to 32°C, based on MSS long-term climate averages.
  • Night-time lows: around 24 to 25°C, so don't expect a cool evening.
  • Humidity: high enough that the air feels hotter than the thermometer says.
  • Sea temperature: around 28 to 29°C, warm enough to swim off Sentosa without flinching (Singapore's beaches are for lounging more than snorkelling, though).
  • Daylight: roughly 12 hours, with sunrise a little after 7am and sunset a little after 7pm, because Singapore sits about one degree north of the equator.
  • Time difference: none. Singapore and Hong Kong both run on UTC+8.

Rain in March usually arrives as short, heavy afternoon or evening downpours rather than all-day drizzle. Do outdoor things in the morning and save the afternoon for museums, malls and hawker centres.

Mark the March 2027 calendar

  • Hari Raya Puasa, the festival marking the end of Ramadan, is expected on or around 10 March 2027. It's a Singapore public holiday, and the exact date depends on the moon sighting, so confirm it on the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) public holidays page.
  • Good Friday is 26 March 2027, also a Singapore public holiday. Easter Sunday is 28 March.
  • Singapore's March school holidays, a one-week break set by the Ministry of Education (MOE), usually fall in the middle of the month. Sentosa and the big attractions get noticeably busier that week. MOE publishes the exact dates on its school terms page.
  • Hong Kong's Easter holidays: Good Friday, the day following Good Friday and Easter Monday (26, 27 and 29 March 2027) are Hong Kong general holidays, and many schools stretch the break into early April around Ching Ming Festival. That's the window when Hong Kong to Singapore flights fill up.

Check fares and hotel prices

singaporehongkong.com does not track fares on this route yet, so there's no March fare from us to quote. Tracked fares will appear on the Hong Kong and Singapore fare calendar once we have them. Until then the pattern is predictable: early and mid-March seats are usually easier to get than the Easter weekend.

Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Scoot (Singapore Airlines' low-cost arm) all fly between Hong Kong International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport, and the flight takes roughly four hours. You can compare Hong Kong to Singapore fares across a few March dates to see how much the Easter weekend costs you.

March is shoulder season for Singapore hotels: busier than a quiet mid-year week, cheaper than the December holidays or Grand Prix weekend. Rates jump around big conventions, concerts and the school holiday week, so check before you lock in dates. Our guide to Singapore hotel prices for a first stay shows what to budget.

Plan your March trip in six steps

Pick your week first, then book the flight, sort entry and plan each day around the weather.

  1. Pick early or mid-March. The first week catches the last days of Ramadan and the drier tail of the monsoon. Avoid the Easter weekend unless you have no choice.
  2. Book a base that fits the trip. For a Ramadan or Hari Raya visit, Kampong Glam, the historic Malay quarter around Sultan Mosque, puts you close to the evening crowds, so look at hotels around Kampong Glam. For a first visit with less legwork, Marina Bay or the Civic District keeps most sights within a short walk or MRT ride.
  3. Submit the SG Arrival Card. The SG Arrival Card is a free online declaration that every traveller entering Singapore must submit within three days before arrival, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), 2026. Use the ICA website or the MyICA Mobile app and ignore lookalike sites that charge a fee. Most holidaymakers from Hong Kong, including HKSAR passport holders, can enter visa-free for a short stay, but check ICA's visa requirements page for your passport.
  4. Pack for two climates. You're leaving a city at around 20°C and landing at 31°C. Bring linen or light cotton, sandals, sunscreen, a compact umbrella and one light layer for the fierce air-con on the MRT and in malls and cinemas. Singapore uses the same three-pin Type G plug as Hong Kong, so leave the adapter at home.
  5. Sort data before you land. Roaming on a Hong Kong plan adds up over a long weekend, and a travel eSIM for Singapore installed before you fly means maps and Grab work the moment you leave the plane at Changi.
  6. Plan mornings outside, afternoons inside. That rhythm is the whole trick to Singapore in March.

Do what March does best

  • Geylang Serai at the end of Ramadan. The Ramadan bazaar and Hari Raya street light-up around Geylang Serai, the heart of Singapore's Malay community, run through the fasting month, which in 2027 means the first days of March. Go after sunset, when the food stalls are busiest.
  • Morning walks before the inter-monsoon storms. The TreeTop Walk at MacRitchie Reservoir and the Southern Ridges trail are at their best early in the day, and early March tends to be drier than late March. Check opening days before you go.
  • Pulau Ubin by bumboat. Take a bumboat from Changi Point Ferry Terminal to Pulau Ubin, a rural island off the northeast coast, and rent a bike. Weekday mornings are quietest.
  • Gardens by the Bay after dark. Garden Rhapsody, the free light and sound show at the Supertree Grove, runs every evening, and a warm March night is the right setting for it. If you'd rather someone else plans the evening, browse guided tours and things to do in Singapore.

Skip Universal Studios Singapore during the MOE March school holiday week. The queues are long and the heat makes them feel longer.

Avoid the usual March mistakes

The most common March mistake is assuming the month is reliably dry. Early March often is, but late March slides into the inter-monsoon period, and a 4pm thunderstorm can wipe out an outdoor plan. Keep a covered backup for every afternoon.

  • Booking over Easter without comparing. Shifting your trip by a week, either side of 26 to 29 March 2027, usually buys you emptier flights.
  • Packing for Hong Kong's March. A jacket you wore at the airport will spend the trip in your suitcase. One thin layer for air-con is enough.
  • Forgetting the SG Arrival Card. Without it you'll be filling it in on your phone at the immigration hall, which is a slow start.
  • Treating Hari Raya as a fixed date. The date can move by a day, and some Malay-run shops and stalls close on Hari Raya itself while families celebrate. Visit the bazaar in the days before rather than on the holiday.
  • Expecting durian season. Singapore's main durian season runs in the middle of the year, so March supply is thinner and pricier. Not a reason to change your dates, just set expectations.
  • Assuming Good Friday shuts the city. Banks and offices close, but malls, hawker centres and most attractions stay open, and they're busier than a normal Friday.

Compare March with the alternatives

Singapore in March is warmer than Hong Kong and drier than Singapore in December. The ranges below are approximate long-term averages from the Meteorological Service Singapore and the Hong Kong Observatory, not forecasts.

Make the call

Go in the first half of March 2027. You get the end of Ramadan at Geylang Serai, drier mornings for the walks and Pulau Ubin, shoulder-season hotel rates and none of the Easter crush from Hong Kong. Book the flight once your leave is approved, fill in the SG Arrival Card three days out, and plan every afternoon with a roof over it.
