Singapore in July 2027: Weather, Events and Is It Worth It

9 min read

Singapore in July averages a daytime high of around 31°C and a night-time low of around 25 to 26°C, according to the Meteorological Service Singapore's 1991 to 2020 climate averages. For anyone flying from Hong Kong, that makes July a good month to go: Singapore is no hotter by day, slightly cooler at night, much drier and outside the typhoon belt. The main catch is the Hong Kong summer holiday pushing up fares from mid-July.

That's the short version. Below is what the month looks like in numbers, how it compares with a Hong Kong July, and how to plan it so the heat works for you rather than against you.

What are the weather, events and prices in Singapore in July 2027?

Singapore in July sits inside the Southwest Monsoon, which runs roughly from June to September and is one of the steadier, drier stretches of the year. The Southwest Monsoon is the seasonal wind pattern that blows from the southwest across the region and brings Singapore fewer, shorter downpours than the wetter Northeast Monsoon at the end of the year.

Weather

July rainfall in Singapore averages roughly 150 to 170 mm, according to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) climate averages for 1991 to 2020, well below the 250 mm plus that November and December usually get. Most of that rain arrives as Sumatra squalls. A Sumatra squall is a line of thunderstorms that forms over Sumatra and sweeps across the Strait of Malacca, usually overnight or in the early morning, with strong gusts and an hour or two of heavy rain.

Daylight barely changes in Singapore because the island sits about one degree north of the equator: expect sunrise around 7am and sunset a little after 7pm, so roughly 12 hours of light. Humidity stays high all day, and the sea around Sentosa is bath-warm, so a swim cools you down for about as long as it takes to dry off.

One July risk to keep in mind is haze. Smoke from land fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan can drift over Singapore during the Southwest Monsoon, usually worse from August to October, and the National Environment Agency publishes the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) hourly on haze.gov.sg.

What's on

These are the recurring things that shape a July trip. Exact dates move each year, so check the official source named for each before you book.

  • National Day Parade rehearsals. The National Day Parade (NDP) is held on 9 August every year, and its full dress rehearsals and preview shows run on Saturdays in July, with fighter flypasts, the Red Lions parachute team and fireworks. The venue rotates between years, and the dates and ticket ballot are published on ndp.gov.sg.
  • Durian season. Singapore's main durian season, supplied largely from Malaysia, usually runs from around June to August, though the size and timing of the harvest change every year.
  • Great Singapore Sale. This is a retail promotion that has run across parts of June to August in recent years; its format and dates change, so check Visit Singapore closer to the time.
  • Singapore Food Festival. It has been held in July in several years but has also moved around, so treat it as a bonus rather than a reason to pick dates.
  • Public holidays. Singapore normally has no public holiday in July. Hari Raya Haji follows the Islamic calendar and is expected around mid-May in 2027, so confirm on the Ministry of Manpower's public holiday list.

On the Hong Kong side, HKSAR Establishment Day on 1 July falls on a Thursday in 2027, which turns into a long weekend for anyone who takes the Friday off. Hong Kong's school summer holidays start around mid-July, according to the Education Bureau's school calendar, and that is when outbound demand climbs.

Fares and hotel prices

singaporehongkong.com does not track fares on the Hong Kong to Singapore route yet, so there is no July fare figure to quote here; when tracking starts, it will show on the Hong Kong to Singapore fare calendar. Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines fly nonstop from Hong Kong International Airport to Changi, with Scoot as the low-cost option, and the flight takes around four hours. The pattern that matters is simple: the first half of July, outside the 1 July weekend, is usually easier on the wallet than the second half, once Hong Kong schools break up.

Singapore hotel rates move more with conferences and big events than with the weather, and July does not have an event on the scale of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix later in the year. That doesn't make Singapore cheap: hotels cost more than in most of Southeast Asia in any month. The site's hotel price guide for a first stay is the place to compare areas.

How does July in Singapore compare with July in Hong Kong?

July in Singapore is drier and slightly cooler at night than July in Hong Kong, and it carries no typhoon risk. Hong Kong's July figures below come from the Hong Kong Observatory's 1991 to 2020 climate normals; Singapore's come from the MSS averages for the same period. Both are rounded.

The rain line is the one that stands out. A Hong Kong July can deliver Black Rainstorm signals and a Typhoon Signal No. 8 that shuts the city for a day; Singapore's July rain mostly falls before breakfast and is gone by lunch.

How do you plan a July trip from Hong Kong, step by step?

The plan is: fly early in the month, sort your entry card and payments before you leave, and build each day around the heat. Here's the order to do it in.

  1. Pick your dates before the school break. Aim for the first half of July and avoid flying out on Wednesday 30 June or Thursday 1 July, when the long weekend crowd leaves. Set an alert and compare Hong Kong to Singapore fares for early July two to three months ahead.

  2. Check your entry rules. Hong Kong SAR passport holders can visit Singapore without a visa for up to 30 days, according to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) as of 2026; holders of other passports should check ICA's visa requirements page. Every visitor must also submit the SG Arrival Card, a free online arrival declaration, within three days before arrival, using ICA's official website or the MyICA app.

  3. Choose a base for July. If you want to watch an NDP rehearsal, stay near the water: hotels around Marina Bay put you within walking distance of most of the viewing spots. If you care more about hawker food and a lower bill, Chinatown and Tiong Bahru are on the MRT and usually cheaper.

  4. Sort data and transport before landing. Your Octopus card won't work in Singapore, but the MRT and public buses accept contactless Visa and Mastercard cards at the gates through the SimplyGo system run by the Land Transport Authority. Install an eSIM for Singapore data in Hong Kong so maps and Grab work the moment you leave the plane at Changi.

  5. Pack for heat outside and air conditioning inside. Bring light, breathable clothes, a compact umbrella (it doubles as shade), sunscreen, a refillable bottle, and one thin long-sleeved layer for malls, cinemas and the MRT, which are kept cold. Sandals that cope with a puddle beat canvas trainers.

  6. Schedule the day around the sun. Do outdoor walks before 10am and after 5pm, and put museums, malls and air-conditioned attractions in the middle of the day. If a morning squall hits, wait it out over breakfast; it rarely lasts long.

The July shortlist

These are the things that are genuinely better in July than in most other months, plus one to skip.

  • Durian in Geylang. The fruit stalls along Geylang and Lorong 15 to 40 are at their busiest in season, and you can sit at a plastic table and try Mao Shan Wang, the prized Malaysian variety, against cheaper ones. Don't carry leftovers onto the MRT, where durians are banned.
  • An NDP rehearsal on a Saturday. You don't need a ticket to see the flypast and fireworks from the Marina Bay waterfront, though the venue changes by year, so check ndp.gov.sg first. Arrive early; the promenade fills fast.
  • The Night Safari and evening outings. Evenings are when Singapore is most comfortable in July, and the Night Safari in Mandai is built for exactly that. Look at evening tours and things to do in Singapore if you'd rather not plan the logistics yourself.
  • Weekday Gardens by the Bay. With Singapore's schools in term, weekday mornings at the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome are quieter, and both conservatories are cooled, which in July is half the appeal.
  • Skip the midday nature walk. The Southern Ridges and the MacRitchie TreeTop Walk are excellent at 7:30am and miserable at 1pm. Go early or leave them out.

What catches people out in Singapore in July?

The common mistakes are treating the Southwest Monsoon as a dry season, overlooking the haze and bringing things Singapore bans. Here are the ones that come up most.

  • Assuming no rain. Drier is not dry. A Sumatra squall can bring an hour of heavy rain and strong gusts early in the morning, so check the MSS forecast on weather.gov.sg or the myENV app before an early start.
  • Ignoring the haze. In a bad year the PSI climbs into unhealthy levels, mostly later in the season. If you have asthma, check haze.gov.sg the week before you fly and pack a mask.
  • Bringing a vape. Singapore prohibits the possession and use of e-vaporisers, according to the Health Sciences Authority, and checks at Changi are strict. Leave it in Hong Kong.
  • Paying for the SG Arrival Card. The card is free. Third-party sites that charge a fee are not ICA, so use the official site or the MyICA app.
  • Getting stuck in NDP road closures. On rehearsal Saturdays, roads and some MRT exits around the parade venue close for hours, so taxis around Marina Bay crawl. Take the MRT and give yourself extra time.
  • Booking the 1 July weekend late. Hong Kong demand spikes around Establishment Day. If those are your only days off, book early or accept higher fares.
  • Forgetting the flight home. Return demand from Singapore to Hong Kong peaks at the end of August before the school term starts, so if your trip runs late, check Singapore to Hong Kong fares early too.

So is July a good month to visit Singapore?

Yes. For anyone escaping a Hong Kong summer, July is one of the better months to visit Singapore: no typhoons, far less rain and an NDP rehearsal on most Saturdays. Book the first half of the month, keep at least one Saturday free, and plan your outdoor time early and late. If you can travel any time and want the driest month, February edges July; see the guide to Singapore in February to compare.
